I’ve seen and played some beautiful video games before. Some were beautiful because of their story, some because of their gameplay and replayability, some because of their artistry. GRIS is beautiful on all three levels: story, gameplay and art.

Gris is a hopeful young girl lost in her own world, dealing with a painful experience in her life. Her journey through sorrow is manifested in her dress, which grants new abilities to better navigate her faded reality. As the story unfolds, Gris will grow emotionally and see her world in a different way, revealing new paths to explore using her new abilities.

GRIS is a serene and evocative experience, free of danger, frustration or death. Players will explore a meticulously designed world brought to life with delicate art, detailed animation, and an elegant original score. Through the game light puzzles, platforming sequences, and optional skill-based challenges will reveal themselves as more of Gris’s world becomes accessible.

I came into this just seeing the artwork and it intrigued me. So I purchased it, read some more about it, and learned some of the backstory about why GRIS was going through this journey that she was going through. I was hooked. This universal game breaks the language barrier because there is no dialog, all emotion and plot points are driven through the animation and the music.  There are high happy points of the story, and dark terrifying points – all of which have you wanting more. And when the story is over, you want to play it all over again.

If you are interested in buying GRIS, you can get is on STEAM for $16.99
