If you haven’t heard, then let me fill you in.

On May 30, 2017, Psycho Synthesis Studios approached me about adapting my story “A Slender Victory” and turning it into a short film. I was still riding high off of being published for the second time in The Creepypasta Collection Volume 2, so this was almost unbelievable. Their process was extremely simple, start a gofundme page, get the funding they needed (which OF COURSE I donated), start filming, and BOOM, have something out by December of 2017.

Well, the date may have gotten pushed back a bit, and they were extremely apologetic. I don’t know why, having worked in film before, plus my degree, I knew there would always be setbacks. I told them, I would rather see it done RIGHT, instead of done RIGHT NOW. So they persisted. We shot several messages back and forth along the process. When the filming was done they all sent a video saying hello, and I shot one back thanking them all, so even though, I was on the other side of the country, I felt like I was part of the team, even though, I probably had the easiest job.

Writing a story, albeit a difficult process when you are creatively struggling is NOTHING compared to bringing that story to life on film, and what Psycho Synthesis Studios did was exactly that. They took a story that I wrote, and breathed life into it. Of course, there were some creative freedoms applied, but as they said in the beginning, they wanted to ADAPT my story to film, not depict verbatim. And again, I understood that there would be modifications, the most notable of which is the original story revolved around a man and his son; the film revolves around a woman and her son. I literally laughed out loud in delight when some of the elements that I wrote remained in the film: like the cart bumping into the magazine rack and the car horning at the mom crossing the parking lot.

After watching the finished film, I was most pleasantly overjoyed with the result.

I would like to personally thank everyone on the production team, in front of and behind the camera, everyone in post and the guys at Psycho Synthesis Studios for making this a reality. It means more than you’ll ever know.
