I have always loved H. P. Lovecraft, and whenever I find a game that's based in his mythos, I have to check it out. I was NOT disappointed with DREDGE. The art and soundtrack give the game that sorrowful, hopeless tone that surrounds every Lovecraft tale, and putting the hero in the setting of a series of islands far away from any mainland adds to that sense of abandonment. And if you aren't satisfied with the gameplay and ambience, then the endings will surely punch you in the Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn.
You are tasked with finding several artifacts for a mysterious benefactor, each artifact grants you a special power that will help you fish, upgrade your boat and find the next artifact. I am NOT a fan of open water, so throwing me squarely into a game where not only there is a boundless sea, but monster lurk under the surface had me investing in adult diapers. And we're not even going to talk about what happens when you leave the boundaries of the game map... nope.
